AFK

Auto-reply for members who have stepped away

Lets a member mark themselves as away — anyone who mentions them while they're away gets a short automatic reply saying so, and it clears itself the instant they post again.

Turning it on or off

Every server chooses for itself — switch AFK on or off from your dashboard, under Messages & Automation. When it's off: members can no longer mark themselves as away.

Setting it up

  1. 1

    Nothing required to use it

Members mark themselves with /afk directly, no server setup needed.

  2. 2

Turn on the nickname prefix if you want it visible in the member list

Purely a visibility preference — the ping-reply behaviour works either way.

  3. 3

    Add ignored channels

Exclude channels where a mention isn't really trying to reach the person, like bot-command or logging channels.

Nickname prefix

Optionally prefixes a member's nickname (something like "[AFK] ") while they're away, so it's visible in the member list too, not just when someone happens to mention them. Turned off, AFK status is invisible until someone actually pings.

Ignored channels

Certain channels — bot-command channels are the usual case — can be excluded from triggering the away notice at all, since a ping there usually isn't a real attempt to reach the member.

Tips & things people get wrong

  • There's no manual "clear AFK" needed — sending any message clears it automatically, which is also the one thing that can surprise someone who forgot they'd set it.
