Welcome
Greet new members and give them their first roles
Greets people the moment they join, can say goodbye when they leave, and covers a handful of related moments — boosts, member-count milestones, and a private join DM — that are really all part of the same first impression.
Turning it on or off
Every server chooses for itself — switch Welcome on or off from your dashboard, under Messages & Automation. When it's off: new members will arrive without a greeting.
Setting it up
- 1
Write your join and leave messages
Use the template variables for the member's name, avatar, and member count so it doesn't read like a static wall of text.
- 2
Give new members their starting roles here too
Welcome can hand out roles at the same moment it greets someone, rather than needing a separate Auto Roles join rule for the basics.
- 3
Send yourself a test message before going live
This is the first thing your whole server sees — worth getting right before real members trigger it.
- 4
Turn on boost and milestone messages if you want them
Both are optional extras layered on top of the core join/leave greeting.
Where the greeting goes
A join message can post in a channel, arrive as a private DM, or both. If Verification is also on, the greeting can automatically wait until a member actually passes verification instead of welcoming someone who hasn't gained access yet — that behaviour defers automatically by default, or you can force it on or off explicitly.
Boosts and milestones
Boosting the server can trigger its own thank-you message in a channel, and optionally a private DM as well, with its own boost-specific role grant — including whether that role is automatically removed again if the member's boost lapses.
Member-count milestones announce automatically every N members in a channel you choose — a nice low-effort way to mark growth without watching the counter yourself.
Commands
Tips & things people get wrong
- If you also run Verification, decide deliberately whether the welcome message should wait for it — greeting someone before they can see any channels reads oddly.
- A boost role that isn't removed on unboost will quietly accumulate members who no longer boost — turn on the auto-remove unless that's intentional.
