Verification
Make new members prove they're human before they can post
Verification gates real access behind a short human-check step. A member joins, sees only what an unverified account is allowed to see, and gets your full server the moment they pass.
Turning it on or off
Every server chooses for itself — switch Verification on or off from your dashboard, under Moderation & Safety. When it's off: new members will get straight in without being checked.
Setting it up
- 1
Create (or pick) an unverified starting state
New members should already lack access to your real channels before Hez grants them anything — verification adds the role that unlocks access, it doesn't hide channels for you.
- 2
Choose the role Hez grants on success
This is the role that actually matters — make sure it's the one your channel permissions are built around.
- 3
Test it yourself
Leave and rejoin with an alt, or ask a trusted member to try it, before rolling it out — a verification gate that's misconfigured either lets everyone straight in or locks everyone out.
- 4
Decide on auto-kick
Only turn it on once you're confident the verification step itself works reliably — auto-kicking people because the gate is broken is worse than a few unverified accounts sitting around.
What actually happens when someone joins
A new member arrives without your verified role, so they should only see whatever channels you've left visible to everyone (typically a welcome/rules channel and nothing else — that's on you to configure in Discord's channel permissions, Hez doesn't touch those). They run /verify, complete a short check, and are granted the role that unlocks the rest of the server.
The check itself expires — if someone starts it and doesn't finish in time, the attempt lapses and they simply run /verify again to get a fresh one.
Auto-kick for people who never verify
Optionally, anyone still unverified after a set number of hours gets kicked automatically, keeping your member list free of accounts that joined and never engaged. This is off by default — turn it on only if an unverified backlog is actually a problem for you.
Commands
Tips & things people get wrong
- The most common failure is channels that were never actually hidden from @everyone — double-check permissions, not just the verified-role grant.
- Members who have DMs from server members disabled won't receive anything privately; make sure the verification step is something they can complete inside the server itself.
